Garfield, 15 May 2007Feeling so burpee these past few days!!! Thankfully it finally subceded.
Yeah, and about my reflection on the Singapore Cancer Society Flag day 2007....
Reposted at Newton MRT to report attendence. Then found only JH and Danger man came out of the class boys. So sad lorx. But also saw Hazel mummee with some of her classmates! But the signing up process was very inefficient in that the volunteers had to manually sift through the hundred odd names to find the correct one before issuing us the donation bags as well as the special thank-u pins. Took about 40 minutes to sign up - way too long. In the end, I think about 40 of us AJcians turned up for the morning registration.
Then went over to Bugis where JH recommended this nearby temple. What was so irritating was that the didn't allow collection of the donations in the shopping centres, but it's quite an inconvienence not only to us but also the donors who may really want to play a part in contributing to the SCS charitable cause. Maybe it's possible to allocate certain spaces on some of the days just for such a function? And so under the arduous sun, worked for the rest of the day... Will leave out the boring details.
Observations: The older people tend to be more charitable and the younger generation is just totally bo-chup over giving a small part of their pocket money to a charity. What has happened to our society today? But the 30s-40s peeps are also the ones that tend to take the effort to avoid the collectors: they would purposely divert their attention away from you or walk another path that is quite far away so that (hopefully) you would not catch up and approach then for a kind and sincere donation.
Some of the secondary school peeps are so irritating lorx! There was someone wearing the $2 fluffy green shrek ears from Mcdonalds, with his clique of girls. He shouted across the pathway to me, a complete stranger, saying, "Why work so hard under the SUN, not hot meh?". At this, JH shot the 'ciao' look and I nearly c'ow pae, but I just replied, "you too!" because they were also supposed to be collecting. Like, whatever?
Yeah, that should be it. The escapade at the National Library was also quite interesting after the whole thing... Finally managed to borrow some books after a long while, but still not obtaining the vocal training book that supposed to be a real help... wells, have to go down either to orchard or the esplanade next time since the CLB's copy is still on loan. However, the Mount Everest documentuary outside the CLB on the expeditions of the climbing teams there were really scary, with all the frozen blood-deprived hands and feet that you get to see on those dead people. Did you know that out of 10,000 attempts, only 3,000 have made it to the top, with over 200 deaths? Their dead bodies are still there because they wouldn't decompose and nobody would move them in the dangerous conditions on the high mountian.
After viewing the exhibition, I can only thank God that my two feet are still on the Earth. Burp!
